Sleeping in the Icehotel

Hi there,

It has been a busy week and a lot of work is done. Yesterday at 18.00 hours it was the deadline for the Artists who build the Art suites. Over the past 2 weeks they have been working extremely hard to finish their rooms. I walked over there every day and it was truly amazing and inspiring to see the rooms being created and transform bit by bit. It is really impressive to see what people can do using just snow and ice.

Yesterday at 18.00 o’clock everyone gathered in the main room, to start the tour through all rooms where all the artists explained their concept, to be followed by drinks and a party for the artists to enjoy their last night here in Jukkasjarvi.

For our team, there is still al lot of work to be done. Today the last shapes were extracted and the final corridor is in place. We are continiously working on the Northern Light rooms and fixing the entries of the art suites that are already finished. I must admit that by now I’m really starting to feel the little pains in my body after almost 3 weeks of hard work. I knew it would be challenging but it is really tough. I feel like I’m 80 years old. But there is no time to relax. Tomorrow is the official opening and the first guests will arrive. In the evening we will have a great party in the Icebar šŸ™‚

Today I found out that this would be the best chance to spend a night in the Icehotel. With the art suites being done and opening day will be tomorrow, tonight is the perfect night to stay and sleep in the Icehotel! After work, I quickly went home and grabbed my backback and wrote a note ‘Reserverad’ which I’ve put on the bed in my favorite art suite. This was needed since the group of Ice hotel guides will also spend the night in the Icehotel. Let’s hope it works and I will get to sleep in my favorite room. If not, I’ll just fin myself another one. They are all really beautiful.

This will be such an awesome experience I really can’t wait to get in there and get a nice sleep. Tomorrow morning at 7 we will have “glock” (some sort of gluhwine without alcohol) as a little christmas drink to end the week. So hopefully this will warm me up for my last workday this week.

Tomorrow I’ll know how it is to sleep in the world famous Icehotel. Curious? Ask me about it afterwards šŸ™‚

Sweet dreams!

      Hi Erik,

Dank voor je berichtje. Ja dit is echt te gek he. Het was een wild idee om dit ooit zelf te gaan doen, nadat ik een documentaire had gezien op National Geographic. Na enig overleg kon deze droom uiteindelijk waargemaakt worden. Echt een once in a lifetime!! Love it šŸ™‚

  3. A great article is as much about writing flair as it is about technicalities, but you have it all. It takes a great writer to have flair and and skill.
